Theology Discipline Specific Criteria

The University is primarily a teaching institution, and thus teaching is the chief activity of faculty. Excellence in teaching is the sine qua non, though not sufficient condition, for faculty advancement. The Theology Department considers course evaluations and peer evaluations as relevant means of assessing teaching performance.

Summary

I teach both at the University of St. Thomas and St. Mary's Seminary. My teaching responsibilities are in the areas of Systematic Theology, Medieval Theology and Sacraments.

Since I started at UST, I have been able to serve my department by teaching at all levels: core classes for Freshmen, upper-level theology classes, and also classes for our MA program.

I teach the first theology class in the new core sequence to help ensure that students' first experience of theology at UST is positive.

I teach the upper-level Sacraments class is taught every other year and other classes such as Grace and the Human Condition as needed. I always have several non-theology majors take the Sacraments class because they are interested in the material and/or had a good experience in my core class.

I developed the Sacraments class and the Medieval Readings Class for the MA in Theology. I am currently developing a new version of the Medieval Class: Medieval II which will focus on Dominican theology.

I teach a slightly different class on Medieval Theology at St. Mary's Seminary.
